MIAMI, FL – July 13, 2020 – Miami’s leading multicultural, contemporary dance ensemble, the Peter London Global Dance Company (PLGDC) (@peterlondongdc) is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with the world premiere of “WOMEN-ROSES-WATER,” a contemporary and Afro-Caribbean dance fusion compilation honoring mothers who are losing their loved ones. The production celebrates the healing powers of the West African Yoruba deity, Queen Oshun, the goddess of love and protector of children. “WOMEN-ROSES-WATER” will be performed at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) on December 26 and 27, 2020. This production is produced by founder, artistic director, and choreographer Peter London and includes a new commissioned score to be performed by The Ballet and Dance Orchestra, under the baton of composer and artistic director, Ezra Haugabrooks.

“WOMEN-ROSES-WATER” features Roses for Women, an all-male dance of deep passion featuring international dance stars Lloyd Knight, principal with Martha Graham Dance Company; Yu-mien Wu, principal dancer with PLGDC; Leon Cobb, former artist with Martha Graham Dance Company, Limon Dance, and Momix Dance; Armando Gonzales artist with Grand Ballet Theatre of Geneva, Switzerland; and Gentry Isaiah George, former dancer with AILEY II and Dance Theatre of Harlem.

This world premiere also includes works by Annellyse Munroe, former Ailey II company member, Justin Rapaport of Ballet BC Vancouver and Melissa Verdecia of Ballet Hispánico, who creates her fifth work for PLGDC with a dynamic and riveting retelling of the “sheroic” tale of political and feminine resistance by the Maribel sisters of the Dominican Republic, known internationally as “Las Mariposas.”

PLGDC’s artistic director Peter London showcases his Trinidadian and Tobagonian roots in sizzling, vibrant color and rhythm in River Oshun, which depicts the fable of three African queens as they vie for the attention of the popular 15th century Yoruba king Shango with surprising and electrifying results.

Peter London notes that “in this time of both the global COVID-19 health pandemic and global social justice protests, the arts have lent a different voice to emotional feelings and can help bring healing to people because art is another window from which to view a situation and celebrate what is positive about humanity.” Mr. London’s unique dance aesthetic blends the traditional retention of West African dance from the Caribbean, the Martha Graham technique and other modern dance forms, and classical ballet. Mr. London says his own multi-ethnic heritage from the cosmopolitan country of Trinidad, with its Spanish, French, African and East Indian influences of people, energy and vibrations, infuse the global nature of his work.

The Peter London Global Dance Company, an Arsht Center Arts Partner since 2015, provides a platform for many of Miami’s brilliant multicultural dancers to showcase their art, creativity and dedication to contemporary dance.
