On Saturday, May 4, 2019, PETER LONDON GLOBAL DANCE COMPANY (PLGDC) - returns to St. John's on the Lake in Miami Beach in celebration of its 9th annual season. The exciting new programming brings dynamic, world-class performances of dance, music, and choreography.
Audiences can expect a new work in progress " WINGS"; choreographed by Mr. Peter London, with the exploration of the phenomenal compositions of the incomparable 11th century German composer ( an herbalist among other talents) Hlidergard von Bingen , Justin Rapaport ( Juilliard and New World School of the Arts alum and artist with BALLET BC.Vancouver,Canada."AT AN END"), Jacqueline Bulnes ( NWSA alum, former soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company and current artist with the Jose Limon Dance Company, NYC. " SHADOWS"), Kashia Kancey (NWSA alum and resident of Overtown." BLACK BIRD"), Brooke Logan ( NWSA alum and assistant to ALVIN AILEY 's Resident choreographer,Jamar Roberts. Title of work ." EOMEONI",as well as a new solo for " WINGS"), Alejandra Martinez ((NWSA alum, " BREAK THE WALL" and a new solo for "WINGS"). Anasthasia Grand-Pierre, ( PLGDC,founding member and principal dancer creates a solo for "WINGS"). Company repertory also includes Iwalani Martin's solo work "OVERCAME", Founding Artistic director of ZEST COLLECTIVE, NYC. Gentry Isaiah George (Former artist with Dance Theatre of Harlem, Juilliard and NWSA alum."GLADIOLUS" ( excerpt) and Annellyse Munroe ( NWSA and AILEYII alum, " SYNTHESIS".)
MIAMI GLOBAL DANCE NIGHT continues to celebrate London's choreographic initiative for Miami's women choreographers; "A desperately needed voice in the field of dance and more so now than ever, given the state of our social and political discourse. Their work is vital and caries the deeply buried seeds...the voices of our humanity."
This spectacular evening of world class choreography and ' Over the top ' dancing by South Florida's premiere multicultural contemporary dancers of exquisite technique,unabashed passion and beauty, is the hottest way to lead Miami's ( The Beautiful City) spring into summer. The performance includes 'blow your mind dancing' by PLGDC's awesome men, " South Florida's finest contemporary male dancers "; Willie Williams, DeVaughn McGann, Brashad Lewis, and new comers; the electrifying Aaron Lopez and Alexander Campbell in a "Sneak Peak" of London's " YORUBA YARD", a celebration of the Afro Caribbean retention of dance from the 15th. century OYO Empire of South Western Nigeria , fused with contemporary dance. PLGDC "WOMEN'S VOICES & MEN'S HEARTS TO WOMEN" celebrates the lives of women in a spectacular and singular performance event of the season with the creative voices of women choreographers and composers whose music found production resistance in their early careers. This stunningly powerful and electrifying performance event by an all Miami group of choreographers and dancers includes male choreographers celebrating the significant contribution of women in their lives.
Sharron Lynn Williams former artist with AILEY II and The Lion King will perform a powerhouse solo work, AILEY star, Jamar Roberts's new work is a duet danced by Martha Graham principal dancer, Lloyd Knight and company dancer Leon Cobb, Overtown Center artist, Kashia Kancey electrifying and unapologetic new work is based on the lives of Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth and Rosa Parks, as well as her "WAR OF THE WOMEN"; a tour de force of unbridled resistance and unflinching athleticism.
Included in this thrilling explosion of creative power is South Florida's cutting-edge choreographic artists and phenomenal dancers Jacqueline Bulnes, artist with Limon Dance Company and former Martha Graham soloist, Melissa Fernandez of Ballet Hispanico NYC, Justin Rapaport of Ballet BC. Vancouver, Gentry Isaiah George, Zest Collective founding Artistic Director and former artist with Dance Theater of Harlem and AILEY II. Herman Payne will perform and create a new work for PLGDC male dancers. Peter London will also premiere a new work for this bold, beautiful and timely choreographic offering in celebration of women and girls everywhere.
